IN-05Agricultural PPE
  • Steel-toe boots and gumboots
  • Chemical-resistant gloves and suits
  • Respirators with matching filters
  • Face shields and ear defenders
  • Washable overalls and aprons

Agricultural PPE covers the hazards of farm work: animals, chemicals, dust, noise and flying debris. PPESuppliers.co.za is a free quote-request service for South Africa. Tell us what your farm or agri business needs and where, and we pass your request to independent PPE suppliers, workwear stores and wholesalers who quote you directly. We do not sell PPE ourselves. There is no charge and no obligation to accept a quote. Compare offers on the same specification. Mention your crops, livestock and machines so suppliers can match the kit to your farm.

Working with animals

Cattle, pigs, horses and sheep can kick, crush and bite, and livestock can carry disease that spreads to people. Good PPE reduces the risk.

  • Steel-toe boots or gumboots against trampled feet, with a sole that grips on wet concrete.
  • Gloves for handling animals, plus disposable gloves for birthing, treatment and cleaning.
  • Overalls or aprons that wash easily.
  • Dust masks in sheds and poultry houses.
  • Safety glasses and a face shield when vaccinating or splashing may occur.

Wash hands and boots after every handling session, because animal-borne infections spread by contact.

Spraying pesticides and chemicals

Read the product label first. It states the PPE needed for mixing and spraying. Typical kit is a chemical-resistant suit or apron, nitrile gloves, rubber boots, goggles or a face shield, and a respirator with the right filter. A dust mask is not enough for most sprays.

Clothing that has been sprayed must be washed apart from family laundry. Cartridges and filters must be replaced on schedule. Spray operators need training and fit-tested respirators. Ask suppliers for chemical gloves that match the products you apply, since nitrile, neoprene and PVC resist different chemicals.

Grass cutting and brush cutter work

Brush cutters and mowers throw stones, wire and cut stems at high speed and make loud noise. Operators need a face shield or visor over safety glasses, ear defenders, strong gloves, long trousers or cut-resistant chaps, and boots with grip and toe protection. Chainsaw and tree-felling work needs more again: a helmet with visor and ear muffs, cut-protection trousers and boots.

Dusty harvesting and grain handling call for FFP2 dust masks. Tell the supplier your crops and tasks.

What affects the quote

We do not quote prices here. Cost depends on the number of workers, the type of work, the chemicals used, the grade of respirators and gloves, branding and delivery. Say whether you need seasonal issue, for example at harvest or spraying time, or a standing supply. Give your farm address, since many farms are far from town and suppliers will plan delivery or courier. Include any size ranges, including women's cuts. Ask suppliers about replacement filters and spare visors so you can restock without a new order each time. Mention if your workers wear prescription glasses, since that affects the choice of goggles and face shields.

Remember that rubber gumboots and hats also need replacing when they crack or fade. A stock list at the start of each season helps you order before the busy period begins.

Comparing agricultural PPE quotes

PPE prices move with fabric, leather and rubber costs, the exchange rate and stock levels. When quotes arrive, check:

  • Exact item and standard: the product, the standard or rating it is certified to, and an NRCS letter of authority where one is required.
  • Sizes and quantities: price per unit or per pack, size runs available and any minimum order.
  • Stock or lead time: ex stock, or imported or made to order, and how long that takes.
  • Delivery and VAT: delivery to site, branding costs, whether VAT is included and how long the price holds.

What to include in your request

  • State the farm tasks, such as animals, spraying or cutting.
  • List the chemicals so gloves and filters can match.
  • Give worker numbers, sizes and seasonal needs.
  • Mention women's sizes where needed.
  • Include the farm address and delivery details.

Frequently asked questions

Do you sell farm PPE?
No. PPESuppliers.co.za is a free quote-request service. We pass your request to independent PPE suppliers, workwear stores and wholesalers across South Africa. They quote you directly and supply the equipment. There is no fee and no obligation to accept any quote.
What PPE is needed when working with animals?
Wear strong boots, washable overalls and gloves suited to the task. Add disposable gloves for treatment, plus a face shield or glasses when splashing is possible. Dust masks help in sheds. Always wash hands and boots after handling.
What PPE do I need for a brush cutter?
Use a face shield over safety glasses, ear defenders, strong gloves, cut-resistant trousers or chaps and boots with grip. Brush cutters throw debris and are loud. Check the machine manual too, as it lists the PPE the maker requires.
Does a dust mask protect against pesticide spray?
Usually not. A basic dust mask filters dust but not sprays or vapours. Follow the product label, which tells you the respirator and filter type. Say which chemicals you use and suppliers will quote suitable respirators and cartridges.
