- SANS 1137 / EN ISO 20471 reflective tape
- Water-resistant shell, breathable lining
- Freezer jackets rated for cold-room work
- Flame-retardant options
- Sizes S to 5XL, logo branding
Cold mornings, cold rooms, wet weather and night shifts all call for the right PPE jacket. Options include reflective jackets, winter work jackets, freezer jackets and bunny jackets. PPESuppliers.co.za is a free quote-request service for South Africa. Tell us the work and the conditions, and we pass your request to independent PPE suppliers, workwear manufacturers and branding shops, who quote you directly. We do not sell jackets ourselves. It is free and you have no obligation to accept any quote, so you can compare several offers first.
Types of PPE jacket
There is no single jacket for every job. Match the type to the hazard.
- Reflective jackets: fluorescent fabric with silver tape, for traffic, roadworks and night work.
- Winter work jackets: padded or fleece-lined, for outdoor teams on Highveld and Cape winter mornings.
- Freezer jackets: heavily insulated, for cold stores, abattoirs and chilled distribution.
- Bunny jackets: short, quilted jackets with a hood, often worn over overalls.
- Flame-retardant jackets: for welding, energy and petrochemical work.
Features to check
Look at the outer shell, the lining and the fastenings. A water-resistant shell keeps wind and drizzle out. A breathable lining stops sweat building up under the jacket. Strong zips and storm flaps matter on windy sites. Elasticated or Velcro cuffs keep cold air out.
For freezer work, ask for a temperature rating and check that the hood, cuffs and collar seal well. For night work, check the reflective tape against SANS 1137 or EN ISO 20471. Pockets should close securely so tools do not fall out. Choose a cut that allows layers underneath and free arm movement, because a stiff jacket that restricts reach is often left unworn. Ask the supplier for a sample so staff can try it.
Colour, branding and issue
Jackets are often issued with the rest of the uniform. Pick a colour that hides dirt but still shows reflective bands. Navy and charcoal are common for industrial work, and lime-yellow or orange for traffic and road teams.
Suppliers can embroider or print your logo on the chest and back. Keep the back panel clear of the reflective tape. In cold stores, a liner that can be washed separately helps with hygiene. If staff share jackets between shifts, choose a fabric that withstands frequent laundering, and tell the supplier so they can recommend a suitable build quality. Check that the zips, seams and padding still look good after repeated washing, not only when new.
What affects the quote
We do not give prices. Suppliers price on jacket type, shell fabric, insulation, reflective tape, number of pockets, size range, certification and branding. Tell them how many jackets you need, the working temperature, and whether staff wear them indoors, outdoors or both. Say if you need flame-retardant, water-resistant or anti-static properties. Add your logo file and placement, the delivery address and the date you need stock. If you want to compare several suppliers fairly, give each the same specification and quantity.
Comparing PPE jackets quotes
PPE prices move with fabric, leather and rubber costs, the exchange rate and stock levels. When quotes arrive, check:
- Exact item and standard: the product, the standard or rating it is certified to, and an NRCS letter of authority where one is required.
- Sizes and quantities: price per unit or per pack, size runs available and any minimum order.
- Stock or lead time: ex stock, or imported or made to order, and how long that takes.
- Delivery and VAT: delivery to site, branding costs, whether VAT is included and how long the price holds.
What to include in your request
- Say which type of jacket you need and why.
- Give the working temperature and the hours spent in it.
- State any need for reflective, flame-retardant or water resistance.
- Attach your logo and say where it should go.
- Add quantity, size split, delivery address and date.
