A PPE kit bundles the items a worker needs into one pack, so new starters are protected from day one. Kits also suit visitors, contractors and emergency stock. PPESuppliers.co.za is a free quote-request service for South Africa. Describe the PPE kit you want and we pass your request to independent suppliers who quote you directly. We do not sell kits ourselves and we never give prices. There is no charge and no obligation to accept a quote. Compare packs on the same contents and pick the supplier that suits you.

Types of PPE kit

Kits come in a few common forms. Most suppliers will make up a pack to your list.

  • New-employee kit: helmet, glasses, gloves, hi-vis and boots, issued at induction.
  • Visitor kit: helmet, glasses, vest and ear plugs, for people who tour a site.
  • Task kit: items for one job, such as spraying, welding or cleaning.
  • Emergency or spill kit stock: spare PPE kept near a hazard point.

What goes in a kit

Build the kit from your risk assessment, not from a standard list. A kit for a warehouse differs from one for a chemical store or a farm. Include only the items the tasks need, and match each item to the hazard.

Think about fit as well. Boots, gloves and clothing must come in the right sizes, so decide whether the kit is size-specific or issued by size at induction. For hygiene, face masks and ear plugs are usually single-use, and gloves, glasses and helmets can be cleaned and kept, depending on use. Add a bag or box so the kit stays together and clean. A simple contents card inside the lid helps staff check the kit before each shift.

Issuing and managing kits

A kit is only useful if it is issued and recorded. Keep a register that shows who received what, the date, the sizes and the replacement date. Train workers on how to fit, wear, clean and store each item. Under the OHS Act, the employer provides the PPE free of charge and makes sure it is used correctly.

Plan for replacement. Helmets, filters and gloves wear out, and damaged items must be withdrawn. Some suppliers will restock kits on a schedule, which saves your safety officer time.

Photograph a finished kit and keep it on file. It gives storemen a clear picture of what a complete pack looks like.

What affects the quote

We do not show prices. Kit cost follows the contents, the standards, the quality level, the pack or bag, branding and quantity. List each item in the kit with its standard, and say how many kits you need and in what sizes. Mention whether kits are for once-off use or ongoing issue. Add your delivery address, the date you need them and whether you want items packed per employee, which suppliers can often do. Tell them if you want a name label or sizing sheet inside each pack.

Comparing PPE kits quotes

PPE prices move with fabric, leather and rubber costs, the exchange rate and stock levels. When quotes arrive, check:

  • Exact item and standard: the product, the standard or rating it is certified to, and an NRCS letter of authority where one is required.
  • Sizes and quantities: price per unit or per pack, size runs available and any minimum order.
  • Stock or lead time: ex stock, or imported or made to order, and how long that takes.
  • Delivery and VAT: delivery to site, branding costs, whether VAT is included and how long the price holds.

What to include in your request

  • List every item in the kit with its standard.
  • State the number of kits and the sizes needed.
  • Say if kits are for new starters, visitors or a task.
  • Ask whether you want a bag, box or name label.
  • Add the delivery address and your deadline.

Frequently asked questions

Do you sell PPE kits?
No. PPESuppliers.co.za is a free quote-request service. We pass your request to independent suppliers, wholesalers and workwear stores across South Africa, and they quote you directly. There is no fee and no obligation to accept any quote.
What should a new-employee PPE kit include?
It depends on the job. Most include a helmet, safety glasses, gloves, hi-vis clothing and safety boots. Add ear protection or a mask where the task needs it. Use your risk assessment to decide the exact list.
Can a supplier pack kits per employee?
Many can. Send a list of names, sizes and contents, and ask for individually packed kits. This saves time at induction and helps you keep a clean issue register. Suppliers will confirm the lead time and any minimum numbers.
Are visitor PPE kits different?
Visitor kits are usually lighter. They commonly hold a helmet, glasses, a vest and ear plugs, and they must still meet the site's rules. Ask for items that clean easily and adjust to fit most people.
